Griffin Foster Mural

A look behind the history of Griffin Foster’s recently completed mural at the corner of Bridge Street and 8th Street! Featuring works from two instrumental Eastern Montana photographers, LA Huffman and Evelyn Cameron.

In 1880, 25-year-old LA Huffman opened a studio in Miles City and worked with Eugene Lamphere to start a cattle ranch. His background as a photojournalist influenced his style, differing greatly from the portrait photographers of the time.

The Evelyn Cameron raptor photograph was one Griffin found going through a binder of original Cameron prints at the Terry Museum archives. Cameron and her husband, Ewen, moved to Terry in 1893 and started Eve Ranch. Alongside managing the ranch wile her husband was ill, Cameron meticulously photographed life in the Montana frontier, building a collection of thousands of photographs and 36 years of diaries & letters about life on the plains.

Griffin is an experienced Montana mural artist who is well-known for his highly detailed spray painting technique. His pieces can be found at the Belgrade Public Library, Bozeman Distillery, Belgrade Liquor Store, and most recently in Great Falls as part of the 2025 Great Walls, Great Falls mural festival.
