DEER SCULPTURES

THE ARTIST:

Erin Thormodsgard is a Miles City Montana-based artist specializing in sculpture made from reclaimed scrap metal. Self-taught and working in the medium for over a decade, she transforms discarded materials into expressive animal forms that reflect both the rugged spirit of Montana and deeply rooted Christian themes. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and the history embedded in old farm equipment, tools, and metal from a bygone era, her work honors stories of labor, faith, and resilience. Thormodsgard has completed several large-scale commissioned works in and around Miles City and beyond, contributing permanent sculptures that connect communities to their heritage, land, and faith. Her work can be followed on Facebook, Instagram or their website.

THE LOCATION:

Established in 1877, Custer County celebrates its rich, Western history. Today, many of our residents maintain a similar lifestyle with ranching and farming. Miles City, our county seat, still considers itself a western town, but while our tradition and hospitality is steeped in the Wild West, we offer plenty of 21st century services. The county used rented premises until the first courthouse, a two-story brick structure, was built in 1882. The second and present courthouse was constructed in 1948 to 1949 and was designed by J G Link, Inc. of Billings.
